MEDIA LITERACY CONCERN

 Are you media literate

Media literacy is a massive concern on misinformation. Many individuals lack the literacy skills to determine the accuracy of information. They cannot distinguish between real and fake news on the media. Many of them cannot detect if a message is untruthful, especially when the information source is trusted or from the authority. This has led to broad dissemination of false information by politicians, actors and other groups since people will collect and share without verifying the validity and quality of the information. 

A good number has suffered victims of misinformation due to digital illiteracy, with a large percentage ranging from adults above 65 years. Many college students should be concerned about consensus as a reason for misinformation. This is a behaviour where one thinks he/she might be consistent with other people. Such individuals tend to spread a message that many people have widely shared. A consensus effect is reached when a person is termed to have many engagements if the individual obtains many forwarding, tweets and retweets. They do not care about the quality of the information.

I observed that media literacy is not the only concern about misinformation when some individuals want to be recognized for sharing specific information Regardless of the validity. Also, it observed that authorities and politicians take advantage of media illiteracy to spread false information.

I get saddened to a point where the authorities, politicians and actors take advantage of those without media literacy skills and share false information to them, knowing they will take and spread widely when they are ones to lead the campaign against misinformation and educate them.

Please ask yourself, How can the government educate citizens on media literacy? Can the authorities, politicians and actors stop victimizing the media illiterate? Imagine you in this situation, would take the right or wrong path?

HIV TREATMENT DRUGS

Rich hopes as the poor watch  The United States’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved twice-a-year injections and tablets for treating HIV in adults with multi-drug resistant infection. Media groups term this as hopes while majority of the world take it as news of the hot air that will evaporate eventually due to the unaffordable high cost of the drug. It's said that the drug will cost $42,250 (5.1 million) for the two shots, with users then required to fork out $39,000 (4.7 million) a year for maintenance shots. Is HIV a natural calamity or a  weapon formed in labs and now an economic bait.  Since there is urrently, a similar drug called Cabenuva (cabotegravir and rilpivirine) from the United Kingdom’s GSK, which became the first FDA-approved injectable for HIV in 2021 that, costs $40,000 to $50,000 (Sh4.9 million to Sh6.1 million) a year.
